And finally… the small matter of the Straßenbeitragssatzung

There is one topic in Oberursel that has probably been discussed more than anything else this year. If not, then it is at least on par with the new swimming pool and the re-development of the station area. And yet, unlike those other two subjects, it is one that is not so easy to understand.

It is the “Straßenbeitragssatzung“.

The amount of interest in this particular topic was demonstrated in August, when a Bürgerversammlung was held in the Stadthalle to inform members of the public about it and also to hear their views. So many people turned up, that the start of the evening was delayed for safety reasons and the partition wall was removed from the hall to increase the capacity – something that even those on the stage confirmed has never happened before – not even for the evening about the swimming pool! Bus driver attacked in Oberstedten

A bus driver in Oberstedten suffered lacerations after being attacked by two young men on Sunday, 22nd December, at around 9.20pm.

An argument had broken out between the driver and the two passengers after they had started hitting the windows inside the bus. After the men left the bus in the Bergweg they continued to bang on the windows from the outside, at which point the driver also got out to have words with them.

A fight ensued and the 45-year-old driver was hit in the face a number of times. As a result of his injuries he was taken to hospital for stitches.

The men are both described as being between 19 and 22 years old, 1.80m tall, and wearing dark clothes. After the attack they both quickly left the scene and police have as yet been unable to trace them.

Take a tour of Oberursel’s old town

A tour of the old town (Altstadt) part of Oberursel is being offered on Saturday, 4th January, 2014 at 2pm.

The tour starts in front of the Vortaunusmuseum at the Marktplatz at 2pm and costs €3 per person.

Book flea market at the library

There will be a book flea market in Oberursel’s library on Saturday, 4th January, 2014 between 10am and 1pm with proceeds going to the library’s supporters’ association.

The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.

The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).

Changes to bus services

A number of changes have been made to the bus services in Oberursel as a result of new timetables that came into effect on 15th December, 2013.

All of the nr. 41 services are now connected to the nr. 7 services from Bad Homburg and from 2014 this will also service the new hospital being built there.

The evening bus service nr. 45 to Oberstedten has been extended to the Hans-Mess-Straße, where it connects with the new nr. 27 service to Bad Homburg.

On Saturdays and Sundays the nr. 41 service to Weißkirchen-Ost and nr. 42 service to Hauptfriedhof have been adjusted, meaning that there is a bus from Weißkirchen to the town centre approximately every 30 minutes.

The first and last trips of the day to Hauptfriedhof for the nr. 42 buses have been shortened and now terminate at “An der Waldlust”, due to a lack of demand.

Similarly, the stop “An den drei Hasen” will no longer be serviced by buses travelling to Weißkirchen-Ost.

The stop “Oberstedter Straße” has been renamed “Philipp-Reis-Straße” and “Langwiesenweg” has been renamed “Willy-Brandt-Straße“.

Town hall closed on Friday and Monday

The town hall (“Rathaus”) in Oberursel will be closed on Friday, 27th December and Monday, 30th December, 2013.

It will be open again on Thursday, 2nd January, 2014.

No market on New Year’s Day

Couple from Wiesbaden donated blood for the 101st time

After the 125th donation by a visitor from Bad Homburg last month, in December it was the turn of a couple from Wiesbaden to be awarded for an unusual combination of the 101st donation at the Red Cross in Oberursel.

Eberhard Böhm came all the way to Oberursel with his wife to donate blood for the 100th time. He first blood donation had been in 1967 when he was an officer cadet at the marine training school in Flensberg and the platoon went to donate together.

Some years later he was working in Oberursel at first the Dresdner Bank and later the Frankfurter Volksbank and it was during this time that he started to donate regularly. [Read more…]

Nativity Play in the Auferstehungskirche

“We’re going to rehearse, and everyone else is going to be quiet” Jutta Haßelwander told the children, who had come to the Auferstehungskirche on Saturday to rehearse for the annual nativity play.

At the dress rehearsel each child not only had their part, but also their own assigned place to sit. That way, Frau Haßelwander knew exactly where the person was who she needed to go onto the stage.

She has been organising the nativity play in the Auferstehungskirche for the past 14 years, and each year she tries to interpret the Christmas story in a new year. However this year the story is being told in a more traditional year, and preparations began back in September, with the children being cast mid-November. [Read more…]

Donate Blood in Weißkirchen

Blood can be donated at the fire station in Weißkirchen (part of Oberursel) on Wednesday, 26th December, 2013 between 1pm and 5pm. The fire station is located at Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Strasse 2a.

To donate you must be healthy and between 18 and 68 years of age. If you have not donated before, then you must not be over 60. You must take some form of identification with you, such as a passport, that contains a photo.
