Car damaged – note left – driver absconded

A Porsche Carrera 911 was damaged whilst it was parked at the Taunus Information Centre on Tuesday, 2nd April, 2013, some time between 11am and 1.30pm.  The damage is to the front left wing (fender) and is estimated to be around €1,000.

Police believe that the damage was caused by another car parking or leaving next to the Porsche.  The driver who caused the accident left a note with their telephone number, but as this does not comply with the obligations that they have according to law § 34 StVO this means that officially they absconded from the scene of an accident and police have started an investigation.  Had the driver called the police and left the note, then this would not have been necessary.

Anyone who saw the accident take place is asked to call the police station in Oberursel on 06171 62400.

85-year-old robbed with “slip of paper” trick

An 85-year-old woman was robbed at home in the Berliner Straße on Wednesday this week (3rd April, 2013).  At 2.50pm she let a pair of young people into her flat who said that they wanted to leave a note for someone else in the house, but asked her to write it for them – something police call the “slip of paper” trick.  After they had left she noticed that her handbag was missing which contained her purse with cash and a copy of her ID card in it, as well as a keyring.

Car thieves caught on Good Friday

Three car thieves met their match on Good Friday when they forced their way into a Honda Civic on the Hohemarkstraße and made off with the vehicle.

A witness who saw the crime take place called the police who sent a patrol car to investigate.  The car which was presumed to be stolen was still travelling along the Hohemarkstraße and the police officers signalled to the driver to stop.

However not only did car fail to stop, a high-speed chase ensued through the centre of Oberursel, even through parts of the old town and the pedestrian precinct.  It was only when the car came to the dead-end at the end of the Aumühlenstraße that the three men left the car and ran off towards the “Weingärtenumgehung” (by-pass).

One of the men was caught by police after 150 metres and was arrested despite his resistance.  The other two men were caught a short time later in the area.  All three are of Eastern European original and are now in custody.

Meanwhile police are trying to find out if they can be linked to other car thefts in the area.
