Crash during U-Turn on the Königsteiner Straße

A 74-year-old driving an Audi A1 crashed attempting to make a U-Turn on the Königsteiner Straße (K772) on Tuesday, 7th January, 2014 at around 2pm.

They were heading from Königstein towards Oberursel when they turned off into the Königsteiner Straße and then tried to turn around to return to the B455.  However the driver oversaw the traffic island and hit one of the roadsigns causing €3,000 of damage.

Am Alten Bach – roadwords until April

The road “Am Alten Bach” in Oberstedten is set to be resurfaced and new pavements laid starting on Monday, 13th January, 2014.  The work is set to continue until the end of April.

The part of the road first affected is between “Am Mergelgarten” and “Borngässchen”, after which the road connecting with the “Hauptstraße” is set to be improved as well.

Access to the cut-off ends of the road will be via the “Kirchstraße” and “Am Gartenfeld”.

 

Roadworks next week

Two roads will be closed in Oberursel from Monday, 13th January until Friday, 24th January, 2014, to allow for work to take place on the water, gas, and sewage pipes.

The Untere Haingasse will be closed in front of house number 7, the rest of the road can be accessed either via the Eppsteiner Straße or the Ackergasse.

The Mainstraße will be closed in front of house number 24.

A celtic funeral pileA tour for families around the area of the celtic settlement near Oberursel is being held on Sunday, 12th January, 2014 at 2pm.

The tour starts at the Taunus Information Centre and costs €3 each for adults and €1 each for children.  Those taking part should have sturdy footwear.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 14th January, 2014, we are told that it will be a “tragic comedy”. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens in Stierstadt

To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.

Carollers at the town hall

Carol singers in German do not go from house to house before Christmas eve, they do it afterwards instead – specifically between 27th December and 6th January.

During this time, the so-called “Sternsinger”, organised by the local church and who are sometimes translated as “star boys”, go from house to house to collect for a particular good cause using the year’s motto and dressed as the Three Kings.

This year the motto is “Segen bringen – Segen sein!” (bring a blessing – be a blessing!) and the money raised will go to help children worldwide, in particular in Malawi.  With the whole country taking part, it is not unusual to raise over €40 million.

Before they leave they write 20*C+M+B+14 on the door frame, the letters standing for “Christus mansionem benedicat”, or “God protect this house”. [Read more…]

Multiple break-ins on Friday and Saturday

A number of properties in Oberursel were broken into on Friday, 3rd January and Saturday, 4th January, 2014.

On Friday between 11am and 1.10pm a house in the Dornbachstraße was broken into by smashing the patio door.  Electrical appliances and jewellery were stolen.

The second house to be reported was in the Tilsiter Straße in Weißkirchen, were between 2.30pm and 8pm the patio door was forced out of its frame.  Once again electrical appliances and jewellery were stolen.

On Saturday afternoon between 2pm and 9pm the patio door of a ground floor flat was forced out of its frame in the Hohemarkstraße whilst the occupant was out.  Details of what was stolen are not yet available.

Finally on Saturday afternoon, between 4.30pm and 11pm a house in the Altkönigstraße was broken into by throwing a stone through the glass-patio door to the rear of the property.  Again, the occupants were not at home and are as yet unable to give details of what exactly was stolen.

Police in Oberursel are asking anyone who can help them with their enquiries to call them on 06171 62400.
