Several people injured in shunt at traffic lights

An accident at the corner of the Frankfurter Landstraße and Ludwig-Erhard-Straße last Thursday afternoon (22nd August, 2013) left several people injured.

After several cars had already stopped at a set of traffic lights, an 82-year-old man was approaching the queue in a Mercedes car when his foot slid off the brake pedal, causing the car to hit the Peugeot in front of him.

This was shunted onto a Renault Twingo, which in turn hin an Opel Vectra.

The drivers of the Mecedes, Renault, Opel and a passenger in the Renault were slightly injured.

The total damage is estimated at €13,000.

Witnesses sought after damage to car in the Mauerfeldstraße

The front passenger door of a silver coloured Mercedes A-Class was damaged on Wednesday, 21st August, 2013 sometime between 1.30pm and 7pm whilst it was parked on a customer car park in the Mauerfeldstraße.

The damage is estimated at €1,000, but the person who caused it drove off without leaving their details.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

 

From the Ausländerbeirat: Good news, Bad news, No news and Forgotten news

When the Ausländerbeirat met for the first time after their summer break they had plenty to discuss.

They had received a letter from the Chairman of the town council, Dr. Christoph Müllerleile, which their own Chairman, Dr. Franz Zenker, read out.  It announced that the town’s council of elders had decided that with immediate notice the members of the Ausländerbeirat would not be allowed to sit in on committee meetings if they were closed to the public, unless the topic being discussed was particularly relevant to foreigners in the town.

This affects their participation in the finance, social & culture, and building & environmental sub-committees.  They will also not receive the documents associated with those parts of the meeting, unless the relevant chairperson deems it necessary. [Read more…]

Collision between car and U-Bahn

Last Wednesday (21st August, 2013) there was a collision between a car and a U-Bahn at the level crossing on the corner of the Nassauer Straße and Berliner Straße.

According to police the 81-year-old driver of a Mercedes ignored a red traffic light and drove onto the crossing.  The driver of the U-Bahn made an emergency stop, but the train still hit the car on the crossing although no-one was injured.

The fire brigade were called to clear the debris from the crossing, but trains were running again a short time later.

The damage is estimated at around €50,000.

Trout poachers in northern Oberursel

The trout farm in “Dalbigsborn” (the area to the south of the FIS campus) received an unwelcome visit on Tuesday or Wednesday last week (20th or 21st August, 2013).

Fish poachers cut a 50 x 50cm hole in the gate, climbed through and used a fishing line made of cord, a hook and a piece of wood to go fishing.

It remains to be seen whether or not any fish were taken, but the damage so far is estimated to be around €200.  Anyone with information is asked to detectives in Bad Homburg on 06172 1200.

Richtfest – topping out the new swimming pool

Work stopped on the new swimming pool for a few hours last Wednesday afternoon (21st August, 2013) when the “Richtfest” – the topping-out ceremony – took place in the shell of the building.

Those present included  representatives from the town’s political parties, even those who had opposed the way the building is being financed, as well as the architect Dipl.-Ing. Detlef Sacker, the head of the company that will run the pool, Jürgen Funke, and Dr. Werner Freitag, president of the swimmers’ association in Hessen.  Hans Leimeister represented the local district council.

Mayor Hans-Georg Brum commented that it the building was not only the largest project that the town had ever undertaken, but it was also the one that had been discussed the most. [Read more…]

A tour of Camp King

The Kinderhaus - previously Haus Florida, Haus 997, Haus am Wald and Außerhalb 7 - now Jean-Sauer-Weg 2On Saturday, 31st August, 2013 there will be a tour of the area in Oberursel known as “Camp King” with local historian Manfred Kopp.

The tour covers the history of the area from the Reichssiedlungshof in the 1930s, through the time of the Dulag Luft up to the end of the U.S. Army presence in the town.

The meeting point is at the “Kinderhaus” in the Jean-Sauer-Weg at 2pm, and the tour costs 3EUR.

This is an interesting opportunity for local residents to learn more about the history of the area that they live in.

Open-Air Film: Schlussmacher

As part of the Orscheler Sommer the film “Schlussmacher” will be shown in the Camp-King-Park on Saturday, 31st August, 2013 at 8pm.
