Maize Maze opening in Weißkirchen
The Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – opens for the 2012 season on Sunday, 22nd July at 12pm, with a visit from the Brunnenkönigin. The design of this year’s maze is called “The Olympic Games in London″.
In addition to the maze itself there is a haystack to climb on and a “maize pool” to “swim” in.
Coffee and cakes will also be available.
The maze is open every Saturday from 2pm and Sunday from 11am until dusk. Entry costs €2.50 for adults, €2 for children aged 10 to 16 and €1.50 for children aged 4 to 9.
To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.
If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

Partial Closure of the Frankfurter Landstraße extended
The partial closure of the Frankfurter Landstraße between the Ludwig-Erhard-Straße and the Kurmainzerstraße has been extended until Friday, 10th August (2012).
Traffic travelling from Oberursel to Frankfurt will continue to be diverted via the Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, Oberurseler Straße and Kurmainzer Straße.
Disruptions to Sunday and nighttime S-Bahn travel in Frankfurt
Between 17th July and 10th August (2012) maintenance work is being carried out in the railway tunnel in Frankfurt through which the S-Bahn trains run. The S5 from Oberursel to Frankfurt is one of the lines affected.
As a result Sunday services and those after around 11.30pm on other days will not be taking the normal route. Instead they will be diverted in Frankfurt-Rödelheim, missing out the stations “West”, “Messe” and “Galluswarte”, and terminating at Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof on the main level rather than the usual underground platforms.
A number of S-Bahn trains will continue to run through the tunnel, although these services will be limited.
To get to Frankfurt from Oberursel during this time, it will probably make more sense to use the U-Bahn (U3) and change in Frankfurt as necessary.
The Kanonenstraße on Wednesday, 18th July, 2012
The Kanonenstraße was closed on Wednesday morning after a accident on Tuesday evening which left the road surface so badly damaged, that it needed repairing before traffic could be allowed back on it.
The photo shows the end of the road at the Hohemark in Oberursel.
