B456 closed after serious accident

The B456 road was closed between the turning to Oberstedten and the crossing in Dornholzhausen last Friday, 14th December, 2012, following a head-on collision between a lorry and a BMW.

According to the police report the articulated lorry, loaded with coal, was travelling towards Oberursel when it crossed over to the other side of the road near the footbridge connecting the Tannenwaldallee for reasons as yet unknown.

There it hit a BMW head-on and broke through the crash barrier before ending up on its roof next to the road.

The 45-year old driver of the BMW was trapped in their car and had to be freed by rescue services before being taken to hospital with injuries described as “life threatening”.

The 41-year old driver of the articulated lorry was slightly injured.

Although the cause of the accident remains to be established, an initial police report suggested that the health of the lorry driver may have played a role.

An estimate of the damage was put at €120,000.

Last day for the kiosk – first week for the petition

It was always going to be a sad day at the kiosk next to the U-Bahn station in the Nassauer Straße, with Friday, 14th December, 2012 being the last day of business for the kiosk before it finally closed for good.

Much of the conversation going on concerned the future of the kiosk – or lack of it – and in particular the “Bürgerbegehren” that has been started this week.

A “Bürgerbegehren” is a petition to held a referendum on something, and there are strict rules on how to carry one out. [Read more…]

Schüssel and Friends at Kiosk-Lotto Mohr

Schüssel and friends at Kiosk-Lotto Mohr

Freezing temperatures last Saturday did not stop local comedian Peter Schüssler (aka “Die Schüssel”) and his friends – the regulars and other volunteers at Kiosk-Lotto Mohr in the Dornbachstraße – from setting up a stall outside the shop to sell sausages and mulled wine to support his annual Christmas campaign “Schüssel und Freunde helfen” (Schüssel and friends help).

The campaign, which is now in its 10th year, supports a family in Oberursel who, through no fault of their own, have found themselves in trouble.  This being the 10th year, they have set themselves the ambition target of helping two families instead.
