OBG critical of swimming pool supporters’ charity

Local political group the OBG have released a statement criticising the creation of the creation of the “Förderverein Taunabad” – the charity set up by supporters of the new swimming pool.

Part of their criticism is that the main players in the charity are also key figures in the town’s administration.  They argue that by transferring power from the town hall to the charity those at the top are no longer directly accountable to voters but to the charity’s board instead.

But they also criticise the fact that lower down the chain there are town hall employees who they claim then carry out work for this and other organisations in the town whilst being paid for by the towns budget but without the internal accountability. [Read more…]

Open Day in the Open Air

“That’s a lot of money” commented Bardo K. as he saw the cheque for the first time.

The cheque in question was a donation from the Lions Club Bad Homburg-Weißer Turm to the charity “Natur und Psychomotorik e.V.” in Oberstedten for €4,367.20 who were holding an open day on their piece of land located in the woods outside of the town.

But if the Lions Club were on their side, the weather certainly was not.  After several days of sunshine it started to rain just hours before the open day was due to start, with the heavens opening as it got underway. [Read more…]

Cycling up the Feldberg in aid of Children with Cancer

Radeln auf den Grossen Feldberg 2012 FlyerTomorrow (Sunday, 9th September, 2012) will see a group of cyclists make their way up the Feldberg in order to raise money for “Hilfe für krebskranke Kinder Frankfurt e.V.” (help for children with cancer in Frankfurt).

With around 300 people expected to take part, there are three routes – by bicycle via the Kanonenstraße, or by mountain bike or on foot through the woods.

Anyone wishing to take part should be at the Taunus Information Centre at the Hohemark between 8.30am and 10am to register.  To take part a donation of at least €15 is requested.  Refreshments will be available at around the half-way stage with a barbecue being held at the finish.

There will also be a tombola with prizes ranging from a week in a 5 star hotel in Egypt to cycling accessories – the total value of which is over €8,000.

Charity rock concert at Oberursel town hall

Musical notes - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / vlastasAmnesty International is holding a charity rock concert at Oberursel town hall (Rathaus) on Saturday, 28th May, 2011 at 7pm.

Doors open at 6.30pm and tickets costs €5 each.

The bands playing are the “IGS-Rockband” and “Open Window Plan”, and proceeds go to the local Frauenhaus.

Storys & Worship – Live on Tour

Musical notes - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / vlastasA charity open-air concert called “Storys & Worship” is being held at the Hohemark Clinic in Oberursel on Monday, 13th June, 2011 at 7pm.

Starring Arne Kopfermann, Someday Jacob and Sara Lorenz, the concert is free to attend, but donations are requested.  The donations will be used to fund a container which will be used to transport a carpenter’s workshop to Rwanda.

To get there by road, leave the A661/B455 at the “Oberursel-Hohemark” exist and follow the signs to the clinic.  There is a car park at the clinic itself, however this is not free.

Using the U-Bahn, take the U3 to the end of the line “Hohemark”, from where it is a short walk.

Please note that in the event of bad weather, the concert will be cancelled, and guests should wear suitable clothing as the seating is not covered.
