Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 20th October, 2012 between 7am and 1pm.

The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.

To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.

 

Stammtisch at the Seniorentreff

Coffee and Dougnuts - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / FatseyevaThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be holding a Stammtisch on Friday, 19th October, 2012 between 5pm and 8.30pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).

The Stammtisch is a place to discuss anything and everything that those attending wish to.

Fotos erzählen Geschichten – Photos tell stories

An exhibition of photographs taken by members of the Photo-Cirkel in Oberursel is currently on display at the town’s library.

Each of the photos or photo sets tells a story, hence the title of the exhibition, such as the hunting pelican, or “from corn to bread”.

It was officially opened on Friday, 12th October, by the leader of the circle, Günter Albrecht, with Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and the chairman of the culture circle Lothar M. Wachter, and was accompanied by music played by Björn Grün and Stefan Heller.

The photos can be viewed during the normal opening times of the library until Wednesday, 31st October, 2012.  These are:

Tuesday-Saturday 10am-1pm
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 3pm-6pm
Thursday 3pm-7pm

The photographers are: Reinhart Stoll, Günter Albrecht, Harro Peschmann, Manfred Opitz, Marlene Bode, Christian J. Weill, Hans Peter Lipp, Christa Schwermann, Carrie Haub and Brigitte Lehmann.

Energy saving advice

Oberursel RathausThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 18th October, 2012 between 2pm and 6pm.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

 

Swimming pool car park closed from next Monday

Part of the car park at the swimming poolThe swimming pool car park in Oberursel will be closed from Monday, 15th October, 2012.

This is to allow for preparation work to take place, as the car park will be used for storing building materials for the new swimming pool, after which the land will be sold to build new houses on.

 

Speed checks on the Kanonenstraße

Speed camera - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / AngelstormThe police in Oberursel (Ordnungspolizei) carried out speed checks on the Kanonenstraße towards the Feldberg in both directions on Friday evening last week (5th October).

Between 6.15pm and 8.10pm they measured the speed of 564 vehicles travelling towards either Oberursel or the Sandplacken on a stretch of the road where a speed limit of 80km/h is in place.

29 of those measured were travelling too fast, with one motorcycle travelling at 133km/h. The driver faces a €160 fine, 3 points on their license and a 1 month driving ban.  The fastest car was travelling at 111km/h, resulting in a fine of €80 and also 3 points on the driver’s license.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Steam trains

DampflokThe Dampfbahnclub-Taunus e.V. steam railway in Oberursel will be open to the public on Sunday, 14th October, 2012 between 10am and 5pm.

Located at the end of the Mainstraße, entry costs €1,50€ for adults and €0,50 for children. Children receive one ticket to go on the trains in the entry price, additional tickets are €0,50 each.

To get there, either leave the A661/B455 at “Oberursel-Nord” towards Oberursel, then take the first turning right into the Dornbachstraße. The Mainstraße is on the right-hand side.

By U-Bahn, take the U3 to Lahnstraße and cross the road before turning left into the Dornbachstraße.

Forum Nord to discuss the future of Northern Oberursel

The “Forum Nord” is holding an evening to discuss the future of the Northern part of Oberursel (that is, roughly the area between the Lahnstraße and the Hohemark) as part of the town development process on Tuesday, 9th October, 2012 at 8pm in the Grundschule am Eichwäldchen, located in the Eichwäldchenweg.

The evening is open to everyone.
