From the Ausländerbeirat…

When the Ausländerbeirat met on Monday, 4th November, 2013, there were a number of guests present.

And it was one of those guests who asked the question, that I have been trying to answer for the past year: “Womit beschäftigen Sie sich immer?” – the ominous “what do you do?”

One of the things that the committee had been dealing with was the issue of taking rubbish to the tip (“Bauhof”), where a policy has been introduced of asking for ID to prove that those going there are also resident in Oberursel. [Read more…]

Work on Bärenkreuzung to start

Roadworks sign - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / RedKoalaWork on the Bärenkreuzung in the centre of Oberursel is to start on Monday, 18th November, 2013.

The crossing is the junction of the Adenauerallee with the Liebfrauenstraße, Oberhöchstadter Straße and Vorstadt and is one of the major road junctions in the town.

Whilst the road works take place, the town is keen to stress that the shops are still easy to get to, although pedestrians may have to take small detour to get to them.

Sternenfest – Star festival – at the Waldorf School

The Waldorf School (Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus) in OberurselThe Waldorf School in Oberursel (Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus) is holding a “Sternenfest” on Saturday, 23rd November, 2013.

The festival opens at 12 Noon with a bazaar between 1pm and 5pm, followed by singing.

Children in classes 5 to 7 will be performing a “dance of the stars” and the school band will also be playing.

For €5, children can take part in five activities, and the price includes a drink of juice and a piece of cake, allowing them to move around the school freely without their parents.

The school is located in the Eichwäldchenweg, but parking spaces near the school are limited.

To go by train, take the U3 line to Kupferhammer and cross over the main road to enter the Eichwäldchenweg.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 19th November, 2013, we are told that it will be a “new German” film. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Saalburgstraße Closed

A diversion will be signposted.

A breakfast of Generations at the Seniorentreff

The Seniorentreff in Oberursel together with the Familientreff are organising a multi-generation breakfast on Saturday, 16th November 2013, between 10am and 1pm.

The breakfast is seen as a chance for senior citizens who would like to have more contact with children and for families who would like more contact with the older generation but do not have anyone in their own family living locally.

Adults pay €5 each, children eat for free.

U3 partially replaced by buses on Saturday

The U-Bahn line U3 will only operate as far as Kupferhammer on Saturday, 16th November and 23rd November, 2013 between 8am and 4pm to allow for work on the trees to take place.

Between Kupferhammer and Hohemark a replacement bus service will be in operation.

Flea Market at Frankfurt International School

A flea market is being held at Frankfurter International School on Saturday, 16th November, 2013 at 11am.

The market is a good chance to stock up on English language literature, picture books, and games, with the 50 stalls also selling clothing, toys, videos and DVDs.

The market will open until 3pm and proceeds will go to the organisation “Hopes and Homes for Children”.

Please note that the U-Bahn line U3 will not be running to “Waldlust” on Saturday but a replacement bus service will be in operation with trains terminating at “Kupferhammer”.

Energy saving advice

Energy Saving Calculator - ©iStockphoto.com/alexslThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 21st November, 2013.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.
