Collision on the B455

A head-on collision took place on the B455 between the tunnel and the exit “Hohemark” last Thursday (31st January, 2013).

According to the the police report into the crash, a 55-year-old driver travelling from towards Königstein in a Renault crossed over onto the other side of the road and hit a Peugeot and a Porsche Cayenne. The reason for this is as yet unknown. Both he and the driver of the Porsche were trapped in their vehicles and had to be freed by the fire brigade. All three drivers were injured.

The road was closed to allow the vehicles to be removed, the damage is estimated to be at least €100,000.

A tour for families around the area of the celtic settlement near Oberursel is being held on Saturday, 13th January, 2013 at 2pm.

The tour starts at the Taunus Information Centre and costs €3 each for adults and €1 each for children. Those taking part should have sturdy footwear.

Winter walk through the Bommersheim wood

The local council in Bommersheim (“Ortsbeirat”) are organising a winter walk through the area that used to be the Bommersheim wood on Thursday, 27th December, 2012.

Anyone who wants to join in should be at the car park at the Hohemark at 11am or at the riding hall in Bommersheim at 10.30am from where groups will travel by car to the Hohemark.

The walk will last 2 to 3 hours depending on the weather and finish with at the riding hall where there will be soup and cake.

Hohemarkstraße closed near Camp King at the weekend

The level crossing on the Hohemarkstraße between the “Kupferhammerweg” and “Im Rosengärtchen” is being serviced at the weekend.

The road will be closed to traffic at this point from Friday, 9th November, 2012 at 10pm until Monday, 12th November, 2012 at 5am. A diversion via the A661 and B455 will be signposted.

U3 Trains from Frankfurt will terminate at the station “Kupferhammer”, from where buses will connect with “Rosengärtchen”, “Waldlust” and “Hohemark”.

Local buses will also be affect, with route 42 terminating at “Lorsbachstraße”, from where passengers should switch to the shuttle buses. There is no replacement service to the stops “Forstamt” or “Hauptfriedhof”.

Rumble Strips to be added to the Kanonenstraße

In the past months we have often reported on the speed traps that have been placed on the Kanonenstraße – the road that goes from the Hohemark at the northern end of Oberursel to the Sandplacken on the Feldberg.

Not only are cars and in particular motorcycles often caught here going up to 50 km/h too fast, but the road is also one of the worst accident blackspots in the area.

The accidents are often due to drivers taking the curves too fast and over-estimating their ability to control their vehicles, something that is a particular problem in the large curve known locally as the “Applausekurve”.

To try and reduce the number of accidents in this area the speed limit will be dropped to 50km/h and “rumble strips” installed.

The rumble strips – “Rüttelstreifen” in German – will be coloured and 1,5cm high, changing the way the road surface feels to the driver and causing them to drop their speed.

They are due to be installed between 10th and 12th September 2012, which may lead to delays on the road during that time.

U3 to be replaced by buses at the weekend

Due to work on the level crossing in the Gattenhöferweg the U-Bahn “U3” will be terminating at Bommersheim on Saturday and Sunday.

A replacement bus service will be in operation between Bommersheim and Hohemark, with the bus stops either adjacent or near to the train stations.

The stop for the town centre is located in the Feldbergstraße.

Classic under the stars

The Kultur- und Sportförderverein Oberursel (KSfO), who organise the open-air theatre each year, have something special on offer this week – an evening of classical music on the open-air stage in the grounds of the Hohe Mark clinic.

Starting at 8pm the concert will feature members of the “Frankfurter Sinfoniker” conducted by Stefan Ottersbach with selected vocalists.

These include the Mexican tenor Emilio Ruggerio and the American soprano Deborah Lynn Cole.

The music will include pieces by Bizet, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini.

The clinic is easily reached by taking the U3 train to the end of the line (Hohemark), from where it is a short walk. Parking spaces at €3 each are also available.
