Children’s cinema in the Portstrasse

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The bluebox is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” (formerly “Portstraße”).

 

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 9th September, 2014, we are told that it will be a drama. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Bingo at the Seniorentreff

Bingo - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / iofotoThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering an afternoon of Bingo on Thursday, 11th September, 2014 between 2.30pm and 4.30pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).

Anyone who is interested is invited to come along and try their luck!

Two events for families this weekend

This weekend sees two events take place in Oberursel that are aimed at families with children, and both a free to go to!

On Saturday (6th September, 2014) the “Schulwald” will hold its annual “Waldfest” from 11am until 6pm.  Children will have the chance to make things from natural materials, find out about animals that live in the area and also be able to make things out of wood with the on-site carpenter.  In the afternoon they will also be able to pan for gold.

Food and drink will be on offer, along with tours through the forest and music from the Ober-Erlenbach hunting horn band. [Read more…]

Church Meeting Point to start lunchtime meals

The Church Meeting Point “Aktiv im Norden”, also known the “Kirchenladen”, which is run by the protestant Church parish of the “Heilig-Geist Kirche”, first opened its doors 7 years ago with the aim to bring the people at the northern end of the town together and promote communication amongst them.

Each week from Monday to Friday the rooms are open between 2pm and 7pm, offering a free lending library, coffee and cakes, with other activities taking place on some evenings and at the weekend.

But although Pastor Cornelia Synek is happy with this “beginning” as she sees it, with the number of people at this end of the town increasing it is important that the meeting point does more. [Read more…]

Ground-breaking ceremony at Frankfurt International School

The subject of the new sports hall for Frankfurt International School is one that has been on the local political agenda for several years, with the main problem being exactly where to build it.

However last Saturday (30th August, 2014) surely put an end those discussions when the “Ground-breaking ceremony” took place, known in German as the “Spatenstich”, now that the school is building inside their own grounds.

The guests, except maybe for the new arrivals, could see a difference to the grounds as soon as they entered them.  Over the summer holidays, the old sports hall had been torn down.  In its place, next to where the Worldfest is held, is now a fenced off area containing the land where the building once stood.

Police looking for exhibitionist

Detectives in Bad Homburg are trying to trace a man who was seen completely naked around 5.35pm on Sunday, 27th July, 2014, in the area at the end of the Freiligrathstraße.  Apparently, the same man was also spotted in the area at the beginning of May.

He is described as around 40 years old, 1.80m tall, with a very light skin colour and well built with a muscular stomach.  It is suspected that he had a bicycle with him that had saddlebags on it.  Anyone who can shed some light on the matter is asked to call Bad Homburg police on 06172 1200.

Afro-Reggae Concert on the Rathausplatz

The musicians will be:

20:00-20:45 Cros Cosmo (Reggae, Latino)

21:05-21:50 Do Daktari (Afrobeat)

22:10-23:00 Gastone (Reggae-Pop-Rock)

Entry is free.

The event is part of the Orscheler Sommer organised by Kunstgriff e.V.

Classical Music Concert on the Rathausplatz

Playing pieces by Vivaldi, Albinoni, Corelli, J.S. Bach, John Williams and others will be Katie Spencer (flute), Arun Kumar (guitar) and Holger Pusinelli (violin) along with the “Arco Concertante” orchestra made up of teachers from the town’s music school.

Entry is free.

The event is part of the Orscheler Sommer organised by Kunstgriff e.V.
