Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) at the weekend

Due to tree-felling work next to the line the U3 will be running along a different route this coming weekend.

On Saturday, 20th February, 2016, between 8am and 12 noon the line will start as usual at Oberursel-Hohemark and continue towards Frankfurt.  After the “Wiesenau” stop, however, it will divert onto the U1 line and terminate at Ginnheim.

A bus shuttle service will be in operation between Heddernheimer Landstraße and Heddernheim.

To get to Frankfurt city centre, either use the bus connection and continue on the U-Bahn from Heddernheim, or continue in the U3/U1 to Ginnheim and change there to tram line 16.  Alternatively, use the S-Bahn S5 from Oberursel to Frankfurt.

U-Bahn replaced with buses at weekend

Due to work taking place on the line, the U-Bahn U3 will be replaced with buses in the coming days as follows:

Thursday, 6th August & Friday, 7th August: between Oberursel Bahnhof and Hohemark

Saturday, 8th August & Sunday, 9th August: between Weißkirchen Ost and Hohemark.

Bus stops are situated near the platforms along the route.

Currently the main S-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt is also closed for signalling work, so that the S5 trains terminate either at Frankfurt-Rödelheim or Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.  They are not stopping at Frankfurt-West, Messe or Galluswarte between 10pm and 5am.

U3 Trains terminating at Niederursel

From Saturday, 9th August until Saturday, 16th August, 2014, the U3 trains from Oberursel-Hohemark will only be travelling as far as Niederursel to allow for work on the rails to take place.

A replacement bus service will take passengers from Niederursel to Heddernheim in Frankfurt, from where the trains will continue as normal to the Südbahnhof.

However the bus will not be stopping at the stations Wiesenau and Zeilweg.

As the S-Bahn trains are also running a reduced service at present, getting to Frankfurt in the coming week will require a good deal of patience.

One alternative is to travel to Bad Homburg by car, and use the U-Bahn line U2 from Ober-Eschbach, as this is not affected by the disruptions.

50 Years of Twinning – Bees, U-Bahn and Birthday Cake

Saturday (7th June, 2014) was a day of celebration in Oberursel, with 40 guests visiting from the twin town of Epinay-sur-Seine to mark the 50th anniversary of the town twinning.

The day began in the Adenauerallee next to the “Annika fountain” and the cedar tree with a “honey breakfast” and the inauguration of a butineur urbain  – a civic bee hive.

Manfred Belz from the local bee keepers’ club gave a short talk on the importance of the bees in the environment, and on the different types of honey that they produce at different times of the year.

The project is being supported by the grammar school in Oberursel, and will eventually be moved to their grounds.  Financial assistance is being provided by a charity associated with Frankfurt Airport.

Oberursel’s Mayor Hans-Georg Brum, accompanied by Epinay’s Deputy Mayor Patrice Konieczny, said that the twinning still young and active after 50 years, and that sustainability was a key issue for it.  A similar bee-hive was installed last month in Epinay-sur-Seine, and this is seen as a “airlift” connection between the two towns. 50 Years of Twinning – Today in Oberursel

Today (Saturday, 7th June, 2014) sees events taking place in Oberursel to mark the 50th anniversary of the town twinning with Epinay-sur-Seine in France.

The day will begin at 10am with a “honey breakfast” in the Adenauerallee, followed by the inauguration of a “Butineur” – a bee-hive, also in the Adenaueralle, which has a glass front to it to allow passers-by to see the bees at work.  A similar bee-hive was installed last month in Epinay-sur-Seine, and this is seen as a “airlift” connection between the two towns.

At 12.15 a U-Bahn train will make its way out of the refuge siding and enter Oberursel’s station, where it will be officially named “Epinay-sur-Seine – 50 Jahre Partnerschaft mit Oberursel (Taunus)”.

In the afternoon events move to the Epinay-Platz where at 4pm a birthday cake will be jointly cut by Oberursel’s Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and Epinay’s Deputy Mayor Patrice Konieczny. [Read more…]

No U-Bahn or trams in Frankfurt on Wednesday

A strike in Frankfurt will mean that no U-Bahn trains or trams will be running on Wednedsay, 19th March, 2014.  A number of bus routes are also affected.

Some of the bus drivers will also be striking on Thursday and Friday.

Oberursel in particular will be affected by the U-Bahn not running.  To get to Frankfurt the best alternative will probably be the S-Bahn S5.

Night-time Maintenance on the U-Bahn Rails

Urgent maintenance work will be carried out on the U-Bahn track between the stations “Rosengärtchen” and “Waldlust” starting on Monday night, 17th March, 2014 and on the following three nights.

Local residents have complained about the state of the rails, so these are going to be so that a “rail-grinding” machine will be used to restore their surface.

The machine will make a certain amount of noise, although we are told it is “not comparable to a pneumatic drill”.

Car collided with U-Bahn

A 56-year-old from Bad Homburg was driving along the Hohemarkstraße in his Fiat Doblo towards the Hohemark on Wednesday, 12th March, 2014.  At around 1.15pm he went to turn left across the tracks of the U-Bahn near house number 106.

However he oversaw the U-Bahn that was travelling in the same direction.  The car and the U-Bahn collided, with the car being pushed along the track and squashed between the train and the railings.

The car is a write-off, the driver and his passenger were slightly hurt.  The total damage is put at around €20,000.  The U-Bahn was damaged but was able to be driven away under its own power once the track had been cleared.

Reduced U-Bahn service on Sunday

Work on the tracks in the U-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt will mean a reduced service running on Sunday, 23rd February, 2014.

The lines U1 and U2 will terminate at “Hügelstraße” from where buses will continue along the route to the “Südbahnhof”.  Most U3 and U8 trains will terminate at “Heddernheim”.

The S-Bahn S5 provides an alternative way to get to Frankfurt from Oberursel.

Work on the tracks in the U-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt will mean a reduced service running on Sunday, 2nd February, 2014.

The lines U1 and U2 will terminate at “Hügelstraße” from where buses will continue along the route to the “Südbahnhof”.  Most U3 and U8 trains will terminate at “Heddernheim”.

The S-Bahn S5 provides an alternative way to get to Frankfurt, but it should also be noted that a number of other U-Bahn lines and trams will not be running in the West End of the city for part of the day due to the demolition of one of the tower blocks.
