Turn right onto the tracks…

One Mercedes driver showed a little too much trust in her satellite navigation equipment on Friday evening (29th November, 2013).

At the corner of the Hohemarkstraße and Kupferhammerweg, the voice said “turn right”, and turn she did, without realising that the Kuperhammerweg starts 20 metres away on the other side of the U-Bahn tracks.

Instead she turned right onto the tracks, grounding the car.

Trains were halted whilst the car was towed back onto the road.  The car was slightly damaged but no-one was hurt.

A 86-year-old cyclist was travelling along the Freiligrathstraße from the Feldbergstraße towards the Herzbergstraße and had to cross the U-Bahn tracks.  At this point there is a pedestrian crossing which according to police was showing red.

Apparently the man did not notice the U-Bahn which was passing at the time and hit the side of the last carriage.  He was slightly injured and 50 Euro of damage was caused to the bicycle.

The line was closed for 35 minutes during which time a replacement service was set up.

Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) at the weekend

Due to works on the line the U3 will be running along a different route this coming weekend.

On both Saturday, 15th June and Sunday, 16th June, 2013, the line will start as usual at Oberursel-Hohemark and continue towards Frankfurt.  After the “Wiesenau” stop, however, it will divert onto the U9 line and terminate at Römerstadt.

From there, buses will take passengers to Hügelstraße, where the shuttle service will be in operation to the Südbahnhof.

The alternatives are to change trains in Römerstadt to the U9 and continue to Ginnheim, and change there to tram line 16, or to take the S-Bahn S5 from Oberursel to Frankfurt.

According to the police report she had drunk considerable alcohol, which was confirmed at the scene by a breathaliser test.  A blood sample was taken and her driving license was confiscated.
