Two accidents whilst leaving parking spaces

Two accidents that took place in Oberursel on Friday, 17th May, 2013 happened when cars were being driven out of parking spaces.

The first happened in the Holzweg car park, where the driver who was leaving a space frontwards oversaw a car that was passing by.  The car had to be towed out and the total damage is estimated at around €2,150.

Later on in the day, another car was being backed out of a space in the Kumeliusstraße, when it hit a grey Mercedes Benz parked at the side of the ride.  The driver who had been backing out left the scene of the accident without taking care of the damage, but the number plate of his car was noted by a witness who passed the information on to police.  The driver, whose car was not damaged, was later found by police.  The damage to the Mercedes is estimated at around €1,000.

Learner driver went the wrong way

An 18-year-old learner driver was travelling the Berliner Straße on Monday, 6th May, 2013, in an Opel Corsa, heading towards the Nassauer Straße, when he oversaw the one-way-sign at the Freiligrathstraße.

He realised his mistake when he saw cars coming towards him and steered the car to the right.

Unfortunately in doing so he hit the railings between the road and the U-Bahn tracks, causing €750 of damage.  The car had to be towed away.

Lorry and U-Bahn collided at crossing

A lorry and a U-Bahn train have collided at the Zimmersmühlenweg level crossing.

The collision took place on Thursday, 2nd May, 2013 at around 3.35pm, when the driver of a lorry travelling along the Frankfurter Landstraße turned left into the Zimmersmühlenweg and oversaw the U-Bahn coming from Oberursel’s station and travelling towards Bommersheim.

Luckily, no-one was injured and there were only around 20 passengers in the train.  The damage is estimated at €23,000 – €20,000 of which is to the U-Bahn.  Both the train and the lorry were able to continue their journeys unassisted.

Accident in the Stadthalle car park

Police in Oberursel are looking for the driver of BMW 1 series that may have caused damage to another car in the underground car park of the Stadthalle on Thursday, 2nd May, 2013 between 2.45pm and 3.30pm.

A Mercedes parked on level one was damaged on the left-hand side, and police believe this was caused by another car parking or leaving the space next to it.  They say that the driver left the scene of the accident, but on searching the car park they found the BMW parked on level two and believe it was involved in the accident.  They are now trying to trace the owner.

Accident in the Adenauerallee

The 60-year-old driver of a Citroen Xsara Picasso parked her car in the Adenaueralle in one of the parking spaces parallel to the road.

After she had got out of the car, it rolled forward and damaged the rear of the car in front, a Fiat Lancia.

The damage is estimated at €1,100.

Drunk Driver landed in roadside ditch

A 43-year-old woman from the Odenwaldkreis was driving along the B456 towards Bad Homburg in her Kia Picanta last Sunday evening (28th April, 2013).  On leaving the road at the Oberstedten exit to join the L3003 the car slid of the road and landed in the roadside ditch.

Police discovered that the same person had previously caused an accident on the motorway near Offenbacher Kreuz and had damaged the crash barrier in the process.  They report that she was under the influence of a considerable amount of alcohol and after taking a blood sample her driving license was confiscated.

The damage is estimated at €3,500.

Drunk driver hit U-Bahn railing

A car being driven by a 29-year-old woman was travelling along the Hohemarkstraße in the early hours of Sunday morning, heading towards the town centre.

On reaching the turning to “Im Heidegraben” she lost control of the vehicle and hit the railing of the U-Bahn station on the right-hand side of the road.

According to the police report she had drunk considerable alcohol, which was confirmed at the scene by a breathaliser test.  A blood sample was taken and her driving license was confiscated.

The damage is estimated at around €5,000.

Car drove through red light

An accident occured on the Hohemarkstraße at the junction with the Oberstedter Straße on Saturday morning (20th April, 2013), when a 54-year-old driver drove past a red traffic light and in doing so hit a car driven by an 18-year-old who had passed the traffic light showing green.

No-one was injured by the collision caused €6,000 of damage.

Driver misinterpreted headlight flasher

An accident occured on the Feldbergstrasse last Friday (19th April, 2013) when an 18-year-old driver tried to back out an Audi of a parking space.

The 83-year-old driver of a Citroen was travelling along the road and turned on their full-beam headlights just before he reached the Audi, which the younger driver took to mean he was allowing her to leave the parking space.

The cars collided, causing €1,300 of damage.

Turning on the Feldbergstrasse damaged 3 cars

The 45-year-old driver of a Smart tried to turn the car around on the Feldbergstraße on Wednesday morning (10th April, 2013).

Whilst doing so she oversaw a Sharan travelling along the road from the station.  The force of the collision pushed the Smart into a Skoda Octavia.

The damage to the cars is estimated at around €8,500.
