Germania’s spring festival put the youth at the forefront

Visitors to the Gesangverein Germania‘s spring festival at the sports hall in Weißkirchen last weekend, may have noticed some chances to how things have been in previous years.  The festival had undergone a regeneration, starting with the decorations int he hall.  Instead of flowers on the stage, there were colourful luftballons displaying emojis.

The musical programme consisted mainly of the younger groups, with the male and female choirs not singing invidually, but only as the mixed choir.  Outside there were hotdogs instead of Bratwursts, there was a table for the children to draw at, a treasure hunt and hook-a-duck.

It was the “Rotkehlchen” group that started the day’s music, conducted by Eike O. Müller.  Both of their songs were about food.  First they sang “Das ist der Gummibär”, and followed it with an audience-participation song: “Obstsalat” (fruit salad).  The audience were asked to join in with the actions, cutting up apples, oranges and bananas. Due to work taking place on the line, the U-Bahn U3 will be replaced with buses next week.

From Monday, 24th April until Sunday, 30th April (2017) work is being carried out on the crossing at the Zimmersmühlenweg.  As a result the U3 will not be running between Niederursel and Hohemark.

Instead, a replacement bus service will be running with stops near to the U-Bahn stops.  However after Weißkirchen-Ost the bus will travel to Riedberg and the terminus of the U8 line, from where it will be possible to travel to Niederursel and onwards to Frankfurt.

Rally for Europe at the Epinay-Platz

It was at Easter 1967, 50 years ago, that the Epinay-Platz in Oberursel officially received its name.  The town twinning between Oberursel and Epinay-sur-Seine in France was only three years old at the time.

This event will be remembered on Saturday, 25th March, 2017 when a rally will be held on the square between 11.30am and 1pm under the title “Kundgebung für Europa”.

Epinay was the first town that Oberursel twinned with, and the twinning itself is still going strong.  But considering recent events and the current discussions taking place on the future of Europe it was been decided not to celebrate with a festival, but with a rally, with speeches, stalls and music.
