B456 closed after serious accident

The B456 road was closed between the turning to Oberstedten and the crossing in Dornholzhausen last Friday, 14th December, 2012, following a head-on collision between a lorry and a BMW.

According to the police report the articulated lorry, loaded with coal, was travelling towards Oberursel when it crossed over to the other side of the road near the footbridge connecting the Tannenwaldallee for reasons as yet unknown.

There it hit a BMW head-on and broke through the crash barrier before ending up on its roof next to the road.

The 45-year old driver of the BMW was trapped in their car and had to be freed by rescue services before being taken to hospital with injuries described as “life threatening”.

The 41-year old driver of the articulated lorry was slightly injured.

Although the cause of the accident remains to be established, an initial police report suggested that the health of the lorry driver may have played a role.

An estimate of the damage was put at €120,000.

Kanonenstraße closed after accident

Around €24,000 of damage were caused last Thursday (22nd November) by an accident on the “Kanonenstraße” (L3004).

For reasons as yet unknown an VW Golf driven by an 18-year old came into contact with an Audi Q7, driven by a 40-year old and travelling in the opposite direction near the “Sandplacken”.

After this, the Golf had a head-on collision with a Ford Cougar driven by a 41-year old from Frankfurt.

The driver of the Cougar was slightly injured, although the driver of the Golf more seriously.  Fuel leaked from the vehicles, resulting in Oberursel’s fire brigade being called to the scene.  The road was fully closed for two hours until around 6.50pm.

Hit and run on the Hohemarkstraße

On Saturday, 13th October, 2012 at around 10.25am an 83 year old lady from Oberursel was crossing the Hohemarkstraße using the pedestrian crossing near the U-Bahn stop “Lahnstraße”.

Whilst doing so she was caught by a passing car and fell.  She was slightly hurt.  The car did not stop, but witnesses were able to give enough information to the police in order to trace it.  It turned out that the driver at the time of the accident was also an 83 year old lady from Oberursel.

Police believe that the car went through a red light and failed to see the person on the crossing, who had green.

Witnesses sought for Motorway Accident

Police are looking for witnesses who saw anyone on or near a motorway bridge across the A5 last Saturday night.

At around 1.40am on Sunday morning (23rd September 2012) stones and a large lump of earth were thrown from a bridge across the A5 motorway.  The footbridge is an extension of the Massenheimer Weg in Ober-Eschbach.

A 20 year old driver from Niddatal was travelling southwards along the motorway when a large lump of earth hit and broke the windscreen on the passenger side of the car.  The person sitting in the passenger seat suffered severe injuries and was taken to the accident clinic.  The driver lost control over the vehicle which hit the crash barrier and ended up facing the wrong way.  Both the driver and a passenger on the back seat suffered a shock but were otherwise only slightly injured.

The southbound carriageway of the motorway was closed from 1.50am until 8.30am on Sunday morning.  Three ambulances, a doctor, and local fire brigades were in attendance.  The damage is estimated at €30,000.

Those giving first aid reported seeing people on the bridge over the motorway, but by the time the emergency services arrived they had left.  They are requested to call Bad Homburg police on 06172 1200, as are anyone else who was in the area and saw anything.

 

Accidents on the Kanonenstraße

A number of accidents took place on the Kanonenstraße last Sunday afternoon (16th September, 2012), the road between Oberursel and the Sandplacken.

A 25 year old motorcyclist from Gießen lost control of his Honda in a bend to the right and ended up going off the left-hand side of the road.  He was unhurt, but caused €800 worth of damage.

In a separate accident in the “applause curve” a 64 year old Toyota driver came travelling uphill came into contact with an 18 year old Yamaha motorcyclist travelling downhill.  Both claim that the other person was on the wrong side of the road.

One of them was slightly injured, the damage to the vehicles is estimated at around €550.

Cyclist seriously injured on the Hohemarkstraße

A 68 year old cyclist from Bad Homburg was seriously injured on the Hohemarkstraße on Tuesday evening.

According to police he was riding on the cycle path uphill near house number 83, heading for “Im Heidegraben”, when for some unknown reason he suddenly moved onto the main road.

He was hit by a Ford Focus which was travelling parallel to him at the time, driven by a 26 year old.

As a result of the collection the cyclist suffered severe head injuries and was treated at the scene by a doctor before being taken by ambulance to the accident clinic in Frankfurt.

The car suffered considerable damage and the bicycle is a write-off, with the total damage estimated at around €7,000.

The Hohemarkstraße was closed in both directions for about half an hour.

The Kanonenstraße was closed on Wednesday morning after a accident on Tuesday evening which left the road surface so badly damaged, that it needed repairing before traffic could be allowed back on it.

Witnesses sought after Frankfurter Landstraße blocked

A German Policeman - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / totalpicsPolice in Oberursel are looking for whoever is responsible for putting an un-lit “Warnbarke” – a sign usually used to block off a road for roadworks – in the middle of the Frankfurter Landstraße in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The driving of a car travelling from Niederursel towards Oberursel noticed the sign too late, causing damage to the car of around 2,000 Euro.

Those responsible will probably be charged with “dangerous intervention in road traffic”, and the police are asking anyone with information on who put the sign there to call them on 06171 62400.

Did you see an accident in the Oberurseler Straße on Saturday?

A police carA road traffic accident took place in the Oberurseler Straße on Saturday, 14th July 2012 at 9.40am.

A car travelling along the Oberurseler Straße coming from the Kurmainzer Straße failed to allow a lorry to pass a part of the road that is particularly narrow.  The 28-year-old lorry driver swerved to avoid the car, but by doing so came into contact with a parked car.  Both the lorry and the parked car were damaged, estimated at around 1,300 Euro.

The driver of the car failed to stop.
